The cobra snake bodies are very soft so that it is should be impossible for them to raise their heads high. However, in an aggressive situation, this snake can raise its neck and head, the height of which depends on how emergency the situation is. We hypothesized this mechanism happens because the cobra can control the effective elastic modulus of its body by controlling the pressure of air inside the respiration system. Direct measurement to the cobra bodies, either living or freshly killed, and simulation were performed to justify this hypothesis. The simulation demonstrated the neck height increases with the effective elastic modulus according to a scaling relationship. This work may provide a physical foundation underlying the mechanical properties of slender animals
This research focuses on the quality processes applied in the Port Administration of Veracruz (APIVER). This organization is the area responsible for providing infrastructure and port services with an efficient logistics model that favors the optimization of costs in the goods value chains, which generating greater profitability for the port and its business partners. We carried out a study among the APIVER command staff and the external staff working in the port area. To do this, was applied the questionnaire through a Google app, in order to find out the level of knowledge they have regarding the quality processes
Generally, the earthen dams are such types of unique structures that used wholly as an energy source and for irrigation facilities. The ability of using the local borrow materials to do the construction makes these structures are widely spread around the world. In addition, seismic loads can cause serious damage levels to earthen dam due to its inherent vulnerable nature which dictates that a considerable effort should be applied to perform safe designs. In this context, numerical modeling through finite element approach is considered a powerful tool to do a useful analyses procedure within this field. This study is devoted to investigate the effect of slope stability possible failure modes as well as to propose a framework to the seismic slope stability behavior of earthen dams. Two dimensional Finite element analyses procedure is selected to achieve the basic aim of this study by using Geo studio software. In addition, a representative section of Mindali earthen dam is selected as a case study and four slip surfaces are also established to represent the possible failure modes which are slope and foundation failure for both upstream and downstream. San Francisco earthquake is selected as the seismic load throughout this study. Furthermore, the maximum loss in factor of safety is also proposed to characterize the seismic slope stability of an earthen dams taking the effect of peak ground acceleration and earthquake scaled duration for such loss. The results showed that the calculated seismic factor of safety may take extreme levels within the earthquake time profile due to the energy release mechanism. Additionally, it is observed that there is a noticeable compatibility between the peak ground acceleration and the maximum loss in factor of safety for the proposed slip surfaces. Oppositely, no significant uniform context is obvious about the effect of earthquake scaled duration
Tempe is a popular food in Indonesia. The high consumption of tempe does not only occur in Indonesia, because tempe has now becoming global. In Indonesia, tempe is usually produced and distributed by small and medium enterprises (SME). One of among province in Indonesia has been produce tempe is Jakarta. One aspect that can increase the success of a business in surviving and competing is the level of service provided to consumers. Customer satisfaction is the most important factor that influences the success of the industry in achieving excellence over other competitors. Therefore, this study is useful for measuring customer satisfaction with service quality in SMEs tempe in province of Jakarta. This survey was conducted on 90 respondents who were customers of 18 SMEs tempe. The author uses the importance and performance analysis (IPA) method to process the data. The results obtained from this study are that there are three attributes included in the priority category. The three attributes are the unavailability of products when customers need, frequently delays in shipping and lack of attention from management of SMEs to the advice given by customers
Economic growth is one indicator to see the results of development. Positive economic growth shows an increase in a country's economy. Economic growth in real terms from year to year is calculated from the constant Gross Domestic Product. This study uses data from nine ASEAN countries during the 2008-2014 period. The panel data is analyzed using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation method. The results indicate that the best panel model specifications are fixed-effect models with significant variables affecting economic growth, namely energy consumption, financial development, urban population, and foreign direct investment with the elasticity coefficient of each variable are 0.1689, 0.1671, 1.027, and 0.0250. In addition, the model has R-Square value of 79.44%
