Title : Design and Optimization of compact Multiband Reconfigurable MIMO Antenna for Cognitive Radio Applications

Abstract :

A new compact 85 x 55 x 1.6 mm3 multiband reconfigurable 4x1 MIMO antenna is proposed for cognitive radio applications. The proposed structure consists of four elements reconfigurable communicating antenna and ultrawide band UWB sensing antenna in the same substrate. The frequency reconfigurability range of the communicating antenna from 7.5 to 15.5 GHz, while the UWB sensing antenna operates with a band from 2.7-23.2 GHz that can cover the entire UWB band from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. The proposed antenna is optimized using Genetic Algorithm to operate on four resonant frequencies of 8.1 GHz, 12 GHz, 13.95 GHz, and 15 GHz that are used to cover various wireless applications such as WiMAX, international telecommunication union (ITU), satellite, Radar, and broadband applications. The frequency reconfigurability is achieved using only single RF switch (PIN diode) for frequency tuning. The results introduced maximum gain of 7.7 dBi, return loss ≤ -20 dB, Envelope Correlation Coefficient ECC ≤ 0.015, and Isolation ≤ -15 dB. The proposed antenna has been designed and optimized using CST software and it has been fabricated and presents good agreement between the simulated and measured results
